AGREED! I hate them! Never okay! Yeah, I never liked "babe" especially...
I don't even like it when people shorten my name unless they ask first...
There are some close friends and family members who can call me pet names, but not many...
And if an elderly lady calls me "dear" or something, that's all right (they probably wouldn't remember my name, anyway, hehe)

It's generally done as a term of endearment, not an attempt to be superior (unless it's some old fart calling you little lady while he tries to screw you on a used car sale). I generally ignore it when it's from strangers, some people use Hun and Sweety the way some people use "like" every other word. It's neither bad nor good, wrong nor right.
I can't imagine dumping some poor guy just because he got goofy over you and called you Boo or something like that, considering all the really valid reasons a guy can provide for being dumped, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Pet names are usually reserved for someone who is the object of our affection. For example, my husband calls me "Dear".
Being a Southern Lady myself, I am guilty of addressing my gentlemen friends as "Sweetie" or "Hon".

Gee, I'm sorry to hear that!
But first, I wonder why this bothers you. Has someone ever called you a name that offended you? My sister and her husband call my 4-year-old niece (their daughter) ratface. I know........that doesn't sound cute.........! But we do it out of love and play, and my niece isn't get bothered by it. If anything, she often responds to it by laughing at it. Besides, she's a beautiful little girl, and we often remind her of that.

Sweety, honey - if you have a problem with pet names, that's no one's business but your own. Seriously though, most people don't have a problem with them. I don't think your guys mean them to be condescending. If you don't like them, though, you should let them know. But don't throw a guy out just because he whips out a term of endearment. He just likes you, that's all!

Oh honey-bunch, don't be such a poopsy! You know that you're my snookums no matter how much you want to be a foofer. Now, pucker up my lemon-drop and...
Just kidding...It is condescending, childish and downright rude. I hate it too!
