Since 8 months ago, I have been dating with an Egyptian boy. He always said he wanted to get married with me, that I was his fiancé, and things like that.

My father had a problem last week and he sent dad a support mail. Dad showed me that me, but for my surprise, he wrote to my dad I AM THE ONE WHO CHAT WITH YOUR DAUGHTER. First, I was a surprise for me, but then dad asked me if he was my fiancée, my boyfriend, my friend or what.

Today I was talking with his bestriend, he says that maybe he didn't mean to say it that way, but when I told him, that I was disappointed, he told me not to be sad, because I am a good girl. Then I told him that with those words, I may continue my life without my "boyfriend" and he answered to me, that's life.

I don't know what to think! I have several Egyptian friends, and they say that when an egyptian says "i want to marry you" that is not a joke... it is for real!

Please tell me what you think?

I think he did not want to shock your father by telling him that he was your fiance. In Egypt fathers have a say about such issues, they must agree.

Sweetie, first of all let me say I completely understand how you feel. You should know that Egyptians do take marriage very seriously, however, there are proper channels that must be gone through to obtain the title of "fiancee" officially. Like you I have heard and read that Egyptians do not take foriegners seriously and often suggest marriage very early in the relationship just to be flattering. I had an experience like this myself with an Egyptian man who used to work in the same restaurant as me. He promised to marry me and take me to Cairo. When I confronted him about it he suddenly had a million excuses as to why he could not. It really depends on the individual really and cannot come down to a cultural issue. What I would suggest you do is come straight out and ask him what are his plans for you to marry and be together. If he can't give you a straight answer then chances are he is not all that serious. But don't worry. You sound like a strong independent girl anyway. Good luck.

Do NOT marry an Egyptian man. They want a ticket out of here and a western wife is the easiest ticket. My friends are always asking me to get them a foreign wife. Once they get their visa, they will leave you and take any children you have with them. In the Middle East, as a foreign woman, you have NO rights. You can't take your children anywhere without his permission. Beware. I've seen too many foreign women in this situtation here. There are many sites on the internet for women like you. Do some research.

you sounds too young, 18? is he older: 20?
you are too young for a marriage talk
it is not about egyptians, honey it`s about youth, uncertanity, different backgrounds... and many other things
in middle-east in general, marraige talk is not a joke, but on chating: everything is possible, you even might find that he is a girl!!!
don`t trust words
don`t trust distant relations
don`t trust chat relations
even if you are 29 , youare still young and still have the whole life, find a mature, close boyfriend with whom you have manythings in common and enjoy real relations
GOOD LUCK

The answer is only one " ask your BF a direct question !! what is the relation between us " dont trust his friend .. never trust people in the middle.
BTW , i ve had many over-seas relations when i was 19 untill 26 becouse i was joining my family out of Egypt .. none of the relations worked.. what i realized was i have to have a real relation , people are different when they are close to us .

put n mind that young guys everywhere talks alot i mean it ..alot . dont trust words ,actions are always better .

Best of luck

I think you should ask your boyfriend what he feels and wants in your relationship. Do not forget that Egytians also fall out of marriage as quickly as they fall into it so be sure before you go too far!
