My roommate and i were watching a show on HBO titled "Big Love" and got into a very heated disagreement about the differrences and things men do that women haven't and in most cases won't do. which brings me to my question: Has there ever in ANY culture been women practicing poligamy ?. I personally feel that it's not in a womens nature to desire to be married to or want more than one man at a time,Could i be wrong?

Yes, there have been cultures that practiced polyandry, which is when women pactrice polygamy. Since there are cultures that practice polyandry, I would assume that women would like to be married to more than one husband.

Some women do desire to be married. I did. It is not in my nature to live happily on my own. I feel much happier and more stable when I'm in a partnership.

If you want a funny look at polyandry then you should watch "Paint your Wagon" with none other than Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin married to Jean Seberg.

Yes, in rural Mongolia (I think ) it is/was common practice for brothers to share a wife. There was just such a shortage of women that it had to be done. I wish I could be more specific but my memory is bad. I read about it in National Geographic.

It does exist in some communities where there is a shortage of men. But, I personally could not imagine being in that situation - the thought gives me a headache.

I think the gepsy must have it, in their culture it is the woman that work not the man, so if she can afford 2 families she can marry another man.
