No he is indeed a seeker...I believe that information is in the first book when Harry gets in "trouble" from Professor McGonagal and he is asked to be the seeker for the Gryfindor team. Then Harry, Hermione, and Ron are walking in the corridors in Hogwarts and they walk past a cabinet with quiditch trophies. Ron or Hermione notice a trophy with Harry's dad's name on it saying that he was a seeker like Harry. It is also in the first movie as this is a somewhat important part. Hope I helped!

James Potter was in fact a chaser. Even though he was playing with the snitch in 'Snape's Worst Memory', he is a chaser. I find it really sad that everyone so many people don't know the correct answer. Rowling has confirmed that he was a chaser.

He's seeker-remember he's showing off with the snitch in the 5th one when Harry goes into the Penseive into Snape's memory-many other examples, but that's the one I remember most

The first book says chaser...
The first movie says seeker...
The Movie guys thought it would be more compelling... they also thought Peeves was expendable.
