the Olympics coming to London and all the money that it will cost. I think it is horrendous and unjust. With the state the NHS and Education is at the moment I think there are better priorities.

Yes, totally, i was saying that the other day. Having the olympics isn't necessary, when there is starving children/families not only in the uk but in third world countries like africa, also kids in uk some lack education abilities but the government doesn't do much and crime rates don't get me started- young and old, people of all ages and genders with different motives do it and global warming,. Also, how do we benefit from the olympics, they don't even know how much money they are going to use to build stadiums and things and they are taxing us a lot, also congestion changes all prepared for the huge crowds and crime that are going to occur here in 2012! They don't know how to prioritise, budget and think in my opinion. :P

Personally? I find it to be a travesty but then we had the Millenium dome as well. All that money for essentially four weeks. Apparently Sydney which has a successful Olympics back in 2000 are still paying over £35m per year to maintain underused facilities which are left over and I can see similar long term costs ahead.

It may be the eye of the World on us, encourage the concept of sport being a good thing to children etc but at the end of the day it is just a sports event with minimal long term benefits.

The money would have been better spent on public services, schools,NHS etc.
The problem with just throwing money at something does not make it any better until you find out what the problems are, mainly bad management.
I once worked in a hospital where there 4 mateince men,two gardeners and 6 bosses with a Secretary each.
talk about wasting money 1 boss and 1 secretary for each worker!
and the chief executive worked on average 14 hours a week

It's amazing how the govt can't find the money to give nurses a pay raise that matches inflation or that my hospital can't install new locks meaning we get our personal belongings stolen from the changing rooms again. We use the cheapest, rubbish equipment in the operating theatre and get reprimanded for wasting equipment when we don't re-use things that are for "Single-Patient Use". But when it comes to a gigantic ego-boost for all the politicians they can suddenly find 9.3 BILLION POUNDS. It actually makes me want to be sick. B@stards!

I think the Olympics are pointless and a waste of money, period. Regardless of where theyre held. Every country has better things to spend money on than that.

The Olympics should never have been tendered for, just shows what this government and their lackeys think of the public, no consultation, and we have to foot the bill regardless, for an overrated bun fight for politicians and the worlds press.

i totally agree....they bang on and on about not being able to afford this that ans the other yet they go ahead and build a whole new stadium for the olympics....chances are they stadium wont be used again after it....if anything they should have just update the current sports centres we already have and done it that way....ok so it means traveling but it sure would save on money....sucks big time

From what I recall, every city that thought it would make money from hosting the Olympics has been greatly disappointed.
