I take your point and I actually agree. While the concept of minorities banding together on the basis of race to protect each other seemed to be a good idea, it is too much a double edged sword for it to be applicable today.
The question is, what would the alternatives be? Any ideas?

at first, the Hitler mustached Obama pictures have not got any distinctive connotation than the Hitler mustached Bush pictures did for the previous 8 years. Equating that with racism is ridiculous and is a chief occasion of throwing the race card right into a place it would not belong, a marginally elementary tactic at the instant. The accomplice Flags are displayed each and every now and then with the help of folk who're proud of their history. At different circumstances, it rather is with the help of idiots. each and every celebration has them, regrettably. That is going in the comparable vein as la Raza exhibiting Mexican flags or the different doubtful business enterprise exhibiting their flags. Singling out Tea celebration individuals might rather point out a prejudice as a effect. Myself, I view racism as an unlucky certainty. It exists and could consistently exist. the main suitable we are in a position to do is attempt to coach the greater clever between us, sell a feeling of fairness between ALL races, and supply up appearing like all grievance of a minority is in keeping with a racist outlook. each and every of the latter does is foment greater racism, no longer help do away with it. You do comprehend that one and all importation and habit of the slave commerce in the united states replace into performed under the celebrities and Stripes, do no longer you?

At first glance, it seemed pretty simple to me. If they use race to define themselves, they are racist organizations. Then I realized that most people who belong to these organizations are practicing professionals, NOT practicing racists.
Your question is a perfect example of political correctness run amok. For example, the NIH Black Scientist Association exists to support the special needs of black folks who have worked very hard and become genuine National Institute of Health scientists. This is a good thing, for black scientists and for the all rest of us too. Although their name superficially reminds us of blatant racism, isn't it a greater good that black scientists have somewhere to turn for their unique needs? My point is that just because an organization's name SOUNDS racist, that doesn't mean that the organization actually IS racist. There's a world of difference......

Only the white ones are "racist" because whities are evil./sarcasm
I just graduated from college last year with a degree in civil engineering. There were racist/sexist/etc. clubs all over the place on campus. For example, there was the Society of Hispanics in Science and Engineering (SHSE). Racistmuch? There was also the Society of Women in Engineering (SWE). Needless to say, as a non-feminist, I didn't join that one.

I feel if one group can have their organizations that exclude people of certain colors then other groups can have their own that exclude them.
I love when people say oh the whites can have a special organization for white people as long as they allow black people to be included. So how many white people got scholarships from the Black College Fund? I bet that would be a big whopping 0.

I would have to say that I would view this as racist. If membership is allowed or denied based on race, then it is definetly racist.
It also seems silly to me that an association of a supposed "professional" nature would call itself "black"or "white" as that has no bearing on the ability of the individual to practice the profession.

Yes, the "white" equivalents would, indeed, be considered racist. Be of good cheer, though! As a white person you are expected to be smart, independent, and self-sufficient. Those qualities are a thousand times better to possess then any and all memberships in the NAACP, ABC, NABA, NBNA, NBPA, NBSA, NAHJ or HACU.
Don't play the "victim" game. Minorities, do, indeed have a hard time in America, but they'd have a much, MUCH easier time if they just let go of the hate and spent more time living their own lives. So, if you're a white person, it certainly doesn't pay to think like a victim. In the long run, it defintely doesn't pay to rely on a pack of "non-profit" organizations that exist to cash in on racism. Sure, racism exists, but you don't personally have to play the game. Just steer your own ship and be happy.

I think that it would depend on which side you were coming from. Although, I do know that when I was in school, there was the Black Student Union and the Student Union. The later was for all students while the first group was only for one sides representation in the schools political arena.
Personally, any group that only represents a particular group of students or professionals is racist if it solely excludes people from other backgrounds.

Wow, society really has us brainwashed...As I read the "white" associations, etc., I thought to myself, "uh, yeah, that's racist", but then I continued to read and thought, "what's wrong with an organization for minorities?" There really is not difference between the two-I don't think they should be considered reacist.
