Do you really think anyone cares about the why? It is just another excuse for a drunken weekend. The only people I know who don't get completely blotto are some irish who have a big family party without anyone getting too drunk.

For some of us, probably most of us, it is not an excuse to drink and pinch. I have some Irish heritage, and it's a fun day for me to celebrate that, really, I am Irish (a little). And it's fun to have a day with such a strong single color association. A day for green. Green food, green clothes, green decor. Is there any other day that is so associated with just one color? It's fun.

If you don't like St. Patricks Day, why post about it. There are lots of Irish people ( like myself ) who celebrate it. But plenty of American's do. Maybe if you looked it up you wouldn't think it was so useless.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but celebrating holidays has almost nothing to do with how much historical information you have on mental file about it. Holidays have always been about having fun.
Does it really matter if some of we non-Irish, Americans know about St. Patrick? Most of it is legend anyway.

Maybe to Americans that's all it is, but the Irish are celebrating a beloved priest who brought Christianity to Ireland and supposedly chased out the snakes. Most believe him chasing out the snakes is only symbolic of him chasing out paganism. By the way I am American LOL.

Now wouldn't that be a lovely way to celebrate the end of winter? Give credit to a saint & enjoy the brew.

Most people probably don't know about the day, but they find any excuse to come together and celebrate and get drunk.
