I think they either love her or they think she's seriously overrated.
I personally love her because I'm a Chick Lit fan and writer and Jane Austen is The Original Chick Lit writer.

Great. Mansfield Park is the very best in my humble opinion. When Iris Murdoch published A Word Child years ago, Frank Kermode (great literary critic) said in his review ' This is Miss Murdoch's Mansfield Park', ie showing the high pitch in her writing career that she had reached. I love Jane Austen, although I am male, and many of my male friends cannot read her at all. Sorry, but I don't watch the films, I have the films in my head already. And anyway they choose the wrong actors, as far as I know.

i adore Jane Austen novels,my favourite is pride and prejudice.
I think Jane Austen was misunderstood in her time,as she was rather forward thinking.
I think all the films so far have been an amazing tribute to her,the best being sense and sensibility by Emma Thompson.
the itv Austen season has started very promisingly with Mansfield park.

Absolutely brilliant - and, yes, also a brilliant satirist, especially in Northanger Abbey where she satirises the Gothic novel genre. One of the funniest writers in English ever - I defy anyone to read Sense and Sensibility and not laugh out loud.
The films are generally entertaining, but can't come close to being as great as the books. My favourite adaptation is the 1995 BBC Pride & Prejudice

I like all that stuff, tried reading one of her books once but didn't get far. I prefer the adaptations on tv. Can't wait for North hanger abbey next sunday. Also loved Sense and sensibility, the Kate Winslet one,it gets me every time at the end when Willoughby comes back and she's married someone else.

i like Persuasion, my 2nd admired of Austen's books after satisfaction and Prejudice, so i'd certainly bypass with that one. that's an spectacular tale of affection misplaced and finally, after many trials, regained. i became by no ability extremely waiting to get into Jane Eyre nevertheless, yet certainly the two are properly worth a examine.

ok, I will be perfectly honest. i admire and respect Jane Austen as a writer, and also as a great woman who was definately capable of taking care of herself, something that seemed impossible in her time. but I don't enjoy her works. her stories seem like a soap. but she certainly has great writing style and I love the figures she uses. the films? i never watch films based on books because all they do is spoil the book for me.

She's great. What's up w/ girl above me? A satanist? yeah, right. Anyway, I've read all but two of Jane Austen's books, and they're awesome.
I love the movies, too--they are among my favorites.

Haven't read everything she wrote but do like what I've read. Much funnier than people give her credit for. Re-watching the BBC version of Pride and Predjudice was great.

she's a great author. so good at double entendre. also, she's v good at her description of r'ships betw. a man n woman..v accurate tht is eerie. i mean her description of them in her own time. not now!but i love all layout in novels.. like d setting, char, background n how she maps out her char.. my best is pride n prejudice. loved it more after seeing d vivien leigh n laurence olivier vers. wow...so so good! it made d novel 100% more steamy...also my next fave is Emma.
