I was thinking about putting fishbowls as a centerpeice. Are there any black and white fish that do not require an oxygen system? One's that can live in a plain fishbowl?

I understand the concern and don't worry about the fish. There will children at the wedding and one person from each table will win the centerpeice. I already checked with the preschool and local church, they would love the donation!

We will be supplying a large bag to take the fish home in. Also, the bowls will be deep enough so the fish won't be "bumped" out of the bowl.

hey i am doing the same thing!!!! my wedding is in june though.two months AHHHHHH! sorry :) go to your pet store and they will recommend just plain gold fish, but you will probably have to special order them more than likely.i had to. mollies are good too but they are really small and more expencive and not as pretty. they get very expencive. i have twenty tables and two fish per table and don't forget to order extras couse some will die, just happens. But any ways micheals the craft stores sell cheap clear glass bowls big enough for the fish, like 3/ 4 $ each. oh and as horrible as it is to say don't feed the fish the day of the wedding feed them the morning of the rehersal dinner. then tell whom ever is in charge to feed them after the reception. other wise hey will poop in the bowls during dinner and that is sooo unappitzing. good luck! it's more work than you think! trust me. oh you can put floating candles in the bowls too, it won't harm the fish and is really pretty!

The only fish that can live in a fish bowl would be a betta. And they are rather pretty blues and reds.
In theory it is a pretty idea, but it really isn't rational. What are you going to do with all the fish once the wedding is over? It would be stressful on the fish also, as the wedidng will be loud, people will be bumping the tables, spilling stuff by and perhaps in the bowl etc. And I really don't think you want a dead fish floating in the bowl.
As an alternative why not get floating candels instead of fish? They would look lovely
Edit: as for the posters above me - Goldfish should never be kept in bowls, they are too large and produce too much ammonia. If you had black goldfish as party favors, people would take them home but not have a suitable home to keep them in.
Mollies would simply die in a bowl for more then about an hour. They need 75° slightly brackish oxygenated water

To be very honest, I wish you could be talked out of this.
But I don't believe in answering unless I have a serious answer or at least constructive advice, so... If I were you, I would check the feeder tank at a local fish store. Chain stores usually only sell goldfish for that, but many aquarium shops also use lower quality fancy-tailed guppies which are smaller and less dirty. The reason I recommend these is that they're destined to live much shorter lives than many of the other fish anyway and are also therefore a lot less expensive.
And for pete's sake, don't float candles in the bowls. Flowers might be pretty, but fish are very temperature-sensitive -- a rapid change can belly 'em up in minutes -- and it's only common sense that a candle is going to raise the temperature of the water in the bowl.
Just don't kid yourself that any but maybe a lucky couple of your fish are going home to live long, happy lives. Fish are the ultimate "disposable pet" in this society. They'll get forgotten in the car, or starve or freeze to death in a kitchen bowl, or die of ammonia poisoning floating in their own wastes in a child's bedroom. And that's if they survive to be taken home. I can just imagine children throwing greasy pieces of their dinners into the fishbowls to "feed the pretty fishies."
At any rate, good luck with whatever you decide, and congratulations!

Beta's come in solid black and solid white. There are black and white goldfish but they cannot live in a bowl and cost around 20 dollars a peice at the cheapest. You are intending to give fish away to people who have no clue how to keep fish. I think its a bad idea, I'd go with something else.

Bad idea, you'll have dead and dying fish everywhere. Mollies are jumpers, imagine a fish jumping out of its bowl and onto the dinner plate of a guest. They also get 6 inches

All fish have to have oxygen and the only black and white fish need a big 10 gallon tank or more. They include:
- mollies
- black moors ( goldfish )
- oscars

This is absolutely ridiculous. That's all very well that people will win them, but they need a proper tank to keep them in, are you going to provide that as well? I doubt it. This sort of thing should be illegal. Its animal cruelty. The fish are just going to die as soon as someone gets them home if not before. If you can live with that on your conscience on your wedding day then good luck to you. I personally couldn't.

You should use fake fish. What are you going to do with all those fish after the wedding? They shouldn't have to suffer to make your wedding look nice.
Fish are living things, not decorations!
Are YOU serious? You want to find living fish to match your wedding colors......ludicrous! Maybe you should get the bridal party little puppies to match the bouquets. They can take those home too right?

I'm sure you can get a beta and/or they have black and white goldfish ( the kinds with the popping eyes ) They are pretty hardy fish... However, as much as a creative idea as that is, what are you going to do with the fish after the wedding is over, make sure they are taken care of and don't just let them go in a nearby lake or pond.... Try and offer them as party favors to the guests haha, im sure they'd go for it! Maybe get the bowls engraved with your names and date you were married! That would be an awesome party favor =)

Black & white is continually tremendous yet you may upload in some color with the flora. you know, for the boutonniere, your bouquet, the centerpieces, and so on. should not be not straightforward to pick on because what would not bypass with black & white? you would possibly want to do some thing truly & in case you want to adhere strictly with that topic, do white lilies with some greenery.
