The classes you are taking are fine for high school-level college prep work. Continue to take science and math courses through high school, including chemistry, biology, physics, trigonometry and calculus (if available). You will need to go to college to study biomedical engineering, and you will need all those science and math courses to get into the right college.

That said, I'm not aware of a college that has a degree in biomedical engineering. You should talk to the engineering departments at a few universities and see if there is a way to develop a major for you in biomedical engineering. Obviously, it will be a mix of engineering and biology courses.

A second problem is that many engineering graduates go on to get their professional engineering license. These licenses are offered in such traditional fields as civil, electrical, mechanical and chemical engineering -- there almost certainly is not a way to get a professional license in biomedical engineering.

If I were you, I would plan to get a degree in mechanical engineering and augment that with a lot of biology (anatomy, biochemistry, pathophysiology, etc.) courses. Then maybe work on a graduate degree in biomedical engineering after you complete your undergrad degree. That way, you have the ME background if you want to shoot for your engineering license. An engineering license has tremendous value to you and to potential employers, so don't minimize its importance.

Good luck!
