Grand Rapids is a pretty up and coming city. Their downtown has been revitalized recently and there's a lot of new growth in that county. The suburb areas are flourishing and there's plenty of things to do. Grand Rapids is less than 40 minutes from Lake Michigan which is always a great place to spend time in the summer. The weather with the lake effect snow isn't so great and could take a while to get used to coming from Georgia. You could probably find a lot worse cities of similar size to live in though.

I lived in MI for over 20 years and loved the lakes (I lived in NE MI on Lake Huron) but the winters are long and brutal.
Grand Rapids is considered the snow belt. So if you are not prepared to deal with snow, I'd consider the East side of the state near Ann Arbor.

Michigan people are friendly and the state has awesome beaches, sand dunes and rivers for the outdoors-people and plenty of entertainment in the cities.

Although I live in the South now (only to get away from the cold) I will always consider Michigan home.

I live part-time in Grand Rapids (or nearby, actually...close enough) and I really like it. Although Michigan is Michigan no matter where you go in it; in winter it gets hella cold and there is a ton of snow. But MI autumns are pretty brilliant. Grand Rapids is pretty much the usual as far as towns go. If you're going for work, I suggest you try Ann Arbor - Google is hiring there, whereas the rest of MI is pretty much dead economy-wise.

Grand Rapids has a lot of snow in the winter ( in the lake effect snow area) { Bad}

it is a older city rich with history AND experiencing a physical and economic regrowth, revival thanks due Fred Meijers and to DeVoss {Good}

I just moved out of Michigan to find work. I loved it there, but the jobs are rare. I would suggest a different area, unles you are wealthy enough to never have to work again.

Well, I live in Romulus close to Detroit. Michigan is pretty nice, The more north you go, the better it gets. The only REAL bad thing about living here is the weather, it can sometimes be very strange...but besides that, I love living here!

okay well, im sixteen so i personally find it rather boring here. the winter is too long and the weather is on crack but other than that i guess its good, considering we dont get many natural disasters and we have all four seasons. also, with so many people leaving michigan there will eventually be more jobs and such available.

My cousin just moved there for her job. Not 'there' exactly, but in a different part of Michigan. She really loves it and she's just getting used to it.

well, we have the worst economy & highest unemployment rate of any state. most people i know are moving out of state since there is no work here. so i hope you aren't coming looking for work. other than that, the summers are great if you like camping & boating. we can party here tha's for sure. but remember the summer is the short season, we get a lot more cold than warm.
