Bill Clinton granted 395 pardons during his presidency, comparable in number to other recent presidents. However, of that total 140 were issued on his final day in office. His final day pardon of financier Marc Rich, who had fled the country on tax evasion charges, immediately erupted in controversy. There were charges that emissaries of Rich had used personal influence and campaign contributions to win the pardon. Similar charges soon arose regarding other final day pardons, prompting calls for congressional hearings and action by federal prosecutors.

I've seen several numbers in the 300 range.

Historically, the average for the past century is 60 per year, so Clinton would have had to pardon 480 to match statistics.

Anyone want to take bets on how long before someone claims that would mean he's below average?

A lot. But the one who comes to mind was Marc Rich, the oil profiteer who illegally made mulit-millions on oil from Iran when they were holding the American hostages. I'm not sure what the story was--you can google it--but Rich had this blond bimbo wife who requested the pardon. Maybe Clinton was doing her, too.

142 I believe in his last month in office and I am certain there were more before that. Mostly drugs and common criminal types, business partners of his and his wife as well as his own brother.

One could ask the same question of every President who has ever held office. Bush will do the same thing.

Knock it off.
