It seems that it is the main source of income for so many.

Also, if you legalise it these people would no longer have to fear the law and the crime rate would drop because it would no longer be seen as a crime. Muggers would no longer feel ashamed but would be proud of their profession just like doctors, engineers etc...? That would bring communities together.

Muggers would mug other muggers as they are running away with their victims purse; it would be fun !

Does that make sense ? Would I make a good politician ?

Strange question/point of view, i do kind of see your point but making it not a crime does not prevent or help people as if you legalise it, it means the people mugging and hurting and making other people scared thinks that it is ok to do that mugging rate will rise and 'crime rate' will drop, it doesn't help matters, it is like legalising stealing saying if someone steals something of yours, go steal something of theirs. Making mugging a profession is bad in my opinion as it is like saying robbing/being a robber is a job, it may be to some people but it is a bad, cruel job as the job may involve violence. And i don't think you are on your way to be a good politician not even to being one. The point is not to reduce the feeling of shame, the feeling of shame comes from doing mugging as they know it is a bad thing but still do it. If mugging is legalised there is 'no law' well not a good law.

If Mugging were to be legalised, crime wouldn't drop you fool. Crime would go up as many people would target showboz stars and rich business men. It would also increase the stabbing rate as many would kill their vicitms if the latter refused to comply with the demands of the mugger

so I guess you think it was funny when the 101 year old got mugged in new york recently, you must have been laughing your **** off when the very brave and proud mugger started punching her in the face and stomach. personally, I didn't think it was that funny.

being this full of rubbish, yes, you'd make a great politician. just use this in your campaign so I know not to vote for you.

Are you trying to be funny. I do not think even a comdian would think that to be funny. Mugging is hurting someone, no one should be allowed to hurt anyone for any purpose. If they have so much energy to mug then they have enough energy to work. No one is owed a living in this country. If a person needs money, they need to go get a job.

I think it must be legal, as the courts do not seem to be handing out sentences now-a-days.

You would make a good something, ever considered being a professional door stop?. A Politician is a step down from that.

Up until today it seemed legal that people are mugging. They don't get much of a penalty for doing it, and ASBO's a now a must have accessory. However this gang who was jailed indefinately today will show that it isn't justified and they can't get away with it any more.

Everybody would just stop carrying money. The muggers would have to be retrained as burglars to make a living.

It is a cowardly crime.
Why do we pay lawyers thousands of pounds to wipe these peoples backsides.

My husband was mugged at knifepoint....he still has the scars, so the answer is NO. Legal or not, being mugged is a horrendous thing to suffer.

Edit: About the politician thing? You've proposed a less-than-sensible solution to a problem, so yes, you would probably make a great politician.

Personally I think muggers should be hung after a beating from the SAS (training for our troops). Funny how they always choose easy targets - correction, not funny but sick.
