Paternal (Identical--from 1 egg that splits) twins:
The likelihood of a single fertilisation resulting in identical twins appears to be a random event, not a hereditary trait, and is uniformly distributed in all populations around the world.
Fraternal (twins from 2 separate eggs) twins:
Studies show that there is a genetic basis for fraternal twinning. However, it is only the female partner that has any influence on the chances of having fraternal twins as the male cannot make her release more than one ovum.
My mom is a fraternal twin, and neither her nor her sister had twins, so the chances of that falling to me are pretty high. Your hubby can't pass that on to you. But there's always hope...fertility drugs and such can increase your chances.

confident, the probabilities of your having a twin being pregnant is larger yet your husband has no longer something to do with it. in the beginning, fraternal (unidentical) twins happen because of the fact the mum at ovulation released 2 eggs as a replace of the same old one and the two have been given fertilized. This tendency is genetic and runs interior the mum's maternal relatives. it rather is multifactorial so it does not propose each and every of the being pregnant would be twin merely that possibilities are high larger. different aspects comprise increasing age (>35), your ethnicity (severe in Africans, low in jap). a 0.33 team would be from the IVFs and different assisted being pregnant techniques that reason greater desirable than one egg to be obtainable for fertilization. you will discover greater counsel below

not too high...twins usually skip generations. Like my husband is a twin and i am not, and we did not have a twin. His twin sister and her husband did not have a twin either, but the chances of our children having a twin is higher.

Twins are passed down from the mothers side, specifically fraternal twins, since the womens side can inherit the ovulating of more than one egg. It is not passed from the husbands side.

I may be wrong, but I thought it only counted if your (the females) side of the family had the history. Afterall, it takes the egg (provided by the female obviously) to either split after conception or 2 eggs to be released during ovulation for twins to occur.
Hope that helps...

It skips a generation so your chances aren't that high, your children might have twins.

Not likely. This hereditary gene is passed from the womans side. So if you do not have this gene on your side then the chances are not high.
