I'm not a vegetarian, and I'm not trying to start a fight. I'm just curious as to whether this has ever been an issue with feminists.

I mean, if one were so inclined, one could say that the carnivorous side of the farming industry teaches our society that males should be encouraged to have rigorous intercourse with any female in sight, while females should be slaughtered and have their bones stripped of flesh.

Growing up in farm country, I understand completely that the nature of livestock demands this sort of protocol, but I'm sure that there are idealists out there who would think it's horribly unjust. So, back to my question: has this ever been a significant issue among feminists?

JJ: D'oh. Thanks for pointing out the huge flaw in my premise. I guess I've been out of the farm country way too long- I totally forgot about steer. I guess I shouldn't ask questions while grilling anymore.

The vast majority of animals that are slaughtered every year without reaching sexual maturity are male. Steer are all castrated male cows. Farmers would not waste young female livestock by sending them to slaughter, it doesn't make economic sense. You may have grown up in farm country but you clearly didn't grow up on a farm. So to answer your question this can't be an issue for feminists because your basic premise is wrong.

No, I don't believe so. There are still so many much important issues. Some little girls in Africa still have to suffer genitalia mutilation, which means their clitoris is cut off, often with a piece of broken glass from a bottle or a razor blade, and then their vagina is sewed...just because they're women, and just because it's tradition. So I might seem insensitive, but who cares about animals.
