I think you should see a different doctor. You are entitled to see a different doctor at your surgery - just ask the receptionist. Some doctors just don't have a clue when it comes to depression and similar illness, so it is vital you find one who understands. Telling you to 'get over it' is not helpful and is not on.

You didn't say something wrong - he's an idiot! Try to see a different dr. Going to see a dr about that is v brave and they shouldn't expect you to put it in the 'right way.' They should have been trained to speak to and understand patients sensitively at medical school. Still many seem to slip the net and miss the morality classes - ie. lots of drs are rubbish! It can take a while to find a good one but don't be affraid to ask to see someone different or even to change surgeries if you need to. I know it can be hard and you can feel like you're just wasting their time but you're really not - just keep going and hopefully you'll get the support you need. Good luck xxx

Crazylady is right. It may be best to write down how you feel-and your thoughts and give the note to your doctor. There are many people suffering with depression so you aren't alone although it feels that way. I have talked about what happened to me a number of times-talking about my feelings and suicide attempts and how I came through it. If you look at some of my answers on this subject you may find some identification. Please see your doc and also maybe a word with your local vicar/priest because they are experienced in these matters. They know that our guilts, fears, resentments and sins if you like can cripple us inside. Just sharing these thoughts privately with another person will remove that lethargy and terrible weight from your shoulders. I wrote down everything that affected me-making sure I kept that bit of paper safe from prying eyes. When I was ready(in too much pain) I chose a person(in my 12 step fellowship) who was trustworthy and didn't really know me and shared my life with him. What a release. I thought I was the only person who had thought some of those thoughts and done some of those things-but no. He shared back saying I've done that, that and thought like that. That is when I found out I wasn't alone any more.
May God protect and guide you.

first of all it sounds like you have a crappy doctor if he's telling you to get over it. plus, if your already feeling down then those kind of comments definitely wont help you feel any better. sounds like you need to change doctor's then talk to them about your issue(s). normally they will check your medical history and ask you some questions mainly about your lifestyle, any recent or past traumatic events, and any prescription, drug or alcohol use to try and decide if it may be anything physical like stress, exhaustion, poor diet, excessive bad habits, etc. then they should give you some advice on things you can do to help you feel better and deal with your low mood like exercise, sleeping more, nutrition, vitamins, etc. if that doesnt help then they might refer you to a therapist who can then determine if its a psychological issue requiring treatment and/or medication. more than likely you'll end up being prescibed medicine and paying too much for counseling sessions for a period of time while you adjust to the medication. unfortunately thats how most depression cases are treated so hopefully you have insurance and a nearby pharmacy. good luck!

Face up to it you are probably clinically depressed . Go to the Doctor and get some Prozac . I think 80% of Britons should be on it with the society we now have well ll at least 80% of us are on the minimum JOB - just over broke
I'm not going to advise you to take up your past interests , because if you have clinical depression you cant do anything including finding a enough love and self respect ( from one whose been there Lots of time )

Its awful when you go to the gp and they make you feel like your wasting their time.
If i were you, i would go and see the same doc, explain again how you have been feeling, and as its the second time he may very well change his mind. If not, get a second opinion.

I had some things wrong with me, i went to my old gp lots of times and she kept saying i was fine.
So as i had already moved i thought i would sign up to the gp in my new area, 3 months later, what the previous doc had said wasnt wrong with me, i was in hospital being operated on for. Infact i had 2 ops.
But you can get a second opinion from a gp at the same surgery.
Good Luck x

If a patient comes to a doctor complaining he is depressed, the doctor should take him seriously and take a psychiatric history. He is of course free to decide that the patient is not clinically depressed and not in need of medication.

Ask him for a prescription for yeast infection. That should help your low mood. It may turn the gizzard on!

If you find it hard to say it all out loud then write it down and give your doctor the letter. It is important he understands how you feel. if he is still unsympathetic get a new doctor.
