My blood was a brownish red color. But I'm not sure if it's just a cut or a period because about 2 months ago my doc. said I wouldn't have one for a long time. And if it is a period, how should I tell my mom?

Your doctor can't tell you when you'll have your period! You're having your period, just like everyone else does. Your mom is probably going to cry (my mom did) and talk about how you're turning into a woman... but it's absolutely nothing to be embarassed (or be afraid that she's going to be mad at you) about!

Is this your first experience with having your period? Statistically, girls have been getting their period at younger and younger ages, so don't be too too surprised.

It might be a long time before you start having your period *regularly* though, so don't get too worked up over it -- this could be a one-time thing, for now. Just go to your mom, tell her you're having some discharge and it makes you curious if you could be having your period, in spite of what the doctor said. Don't be afraid to do a show and tell, after all... she's female too, it's no secret.

If there's any question, she should bundle you back to your doctor for an exam, just to make sure there's no injury. That does beg the question of how you'd get a "cut" that could make you wonder if you're having your period or not.... but your doctor will find the answers.
