If you do not have a wireless adapter installed on your computer, you cannot connect to wireless access points. I'm assuming you have a wireless adapter installed and you are using Windows XP. Click on 'Start' and go to 'Control Panel'. From there open 'Network Connections'. If you have a wireless adapter installed, you will see a wireless network connection icon in the Network Connections window. Right click the wireless connection icon and select 'View Available Wireless Networks'. You computer will scan your surrounding area for wireless access points. After a quick scan, it will show you if there are any networks in your area. Hopefully one of the wireless access points is marked as 'unsecured' that means that anyone can connect to it. If it is marked as 'secured' only people with the proper encryption key can access it. If you see an 'unsecure' network, just highlight it and click 'connnect.'
