I live right beside a basketball gym (10 meters away) where they make a lot of loud noises like shouting people, buzzers, whistles, music, and loud-speakers. I have a baby who often wakes up because of these loud startling noises. I already asked tried talking to the gym, the local government, and even the police, but no one could over any help. Moving houses is not an option for my family so I really need help. Is there a way to block these noises? If so, how? Thanks in advance.

Hedges and fountains are not only good as sound barriers, but they add beauty to your yard & home. The water makes a pleasant 'white noise.' I have problems sleeping with noise around me too, and I often put on a nature/water CD to help mask sounds from outside.

Best wishes..

Adding foam to your walls and windows is not going to look great, granted it’ll work. I’d try some really heavy drapes on the windows, and add a black out liner to them. A fountain, a radio tuned to static, or a noise machine will help mask the sound as well.

Babies become accustom to noise.
It's the adults that worry about it.
Most noise comes through the windows.
Try putting what they call egg-crate over
the windows. Not sure where you would
find it. It's called Acoustical Surfacing.
NASA uses it for their sound proofing.
Broadcasting Studios also use it.
So do the insane asylums.
Try ASI Pro Audio.com They may have it.

In addition to what Kasey said, try planting a tall hedge: The shrubbery will help absorb the noise.

i agree with the person who said the baby will adjust, in the meantime, i would put a radio on in the baby's room with classical music on, one in your bedroom too. i would say earplugs, but you wont hear you little one. check on line for insulated shades or drapes, that will cut it down a little..
good luck
