I despise the current administration, but I actually agree with him on this one. Putting the President's Chief of Staff under oath is a dangerous thing to do, because of the nature of the job. I'm not comfortable with it as a precedent, because the Chief of Staff is a necessary confidant and advisor to the president, and if he's getting subpeonaed then his functionality is erased.

Karl Rove is the Bush administrations hatchet man. He knows where all the skeletons are buried. He would never tell the truth. Even if he was sitting on a stack of Bibles. It's a minor miracle that he is going to be allowed to appear before anyone and answer any questions. It reveals how little support still remains for Bush. Rove knows, maybe better than anyone else, what would happen to him if he told the truth.

That's not the issue.

The issue is that there is no obligation for the Executive branch to allow its officials to testify under oath to the Legislature. The separation of powers is a Constitutional issue, not the simple-minded "afraid to testify" idea you are pushing.

Bush should tell them to go pound sand, that he'll not allow them to waste his peoples' time in some stupid witch hunt.
