I'd like to know what type of pedal do most guitarists use when they want to increase the volume of the tone when doing solos. I understand there are clean boost pedals out there and also there are volume pedals but I'd like to hear from other guitarists as to what they are most comfortable using. Thanks.

I haven't played live in years, but when I did, I used a TS-9 tube screamer in front of the amp if I needed to solo. It does color your tone, and it does add gain (even when you set it to 0), but you can control volume that way. Or, you could get a volume pedal. I guess it'd be kinda hard to go back to the volume you were after the solo. Most of EQ pedals now have gain gain control on them, so that's a thought. You not only get volume boost, but can also shape your sound for solo. Not a bad idea. :)

i used 2 danelectro overdrive pedals. one turned to level 6 on overdrive and level 6 for volume for verse and choruses running on the clean channel of a tube amp. for solos i'd kick on the other pedal with it's settings on 8 for overdrive and 10 for volume. it helped me keep the same tone for song and solo. really the main reason i did it this way was someone gave me 2 of these pedals for a promotion. it worked out well for me. i later bought a few other dani pedals, the chorus and reverb. i consider dani pedals to be a cheap but sufficient version of ibanez pedals, mainly their tubescreamer overdrive pedal.
