I have a very small area by my one car garage to park a second vehicle off the street. I am looking at getting a new vehicle, but was wondering if there is another production car in the United States that is shorter than the Mini?

The Smart Car is not in the US right now. Scion's, the Yaris, etc are all at least several inches longer. I am beginning to think I should get the Mini if I don't want an old death trap...

The new Smartcar that is starting to be imported will be shorter by a few feet! than the Mini. The smartcars are really made by Daimler Chrysler. I think that other short cars include the new class of sub compacts like the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Toyota Yaris, Scion xA.

We priced a Mini-Cooper and they were $19,000 to start. We went with a used '99 Chevrolet Tracker for $7,000 and it's short, too. I just measured it and it's only 13 feet long from the spare tire on the back to the front bumper. I don't know (for sure) how that compares to a Mini-Cooper, in length. I think the new Minis are almost 12 feet, if I remember correctly what the saleman told us. Originally, Minis were designed to be only 10 feet long but they are longer now.
