Do you know what an ad hominem attack is?

Why do so many users of Yahoo Answers stoop to the logical fallacy of the ad hominem attack? Do you even know what it is or why it is wrong?

It means attacking the person. I think that the fallacy of hasty generalization is seen as much, if not more, than this fallacy. Some people do it because they either can't formulate an argument to counter the questioner or just smart azzes.
