As a utd fan i was terrified he was going to get sent off. He is not 18 anymore and needs to control his temper - especially with our injuries at the moment. Neville would have pulled him to one side, giggs didn't yet he was captain.

i agree passion is a great thing for a player to have, the trouble is it doesn't help the team if your banned for 3 games

borogail - i was born in trafford and bred in manchester, It may be true that united fans do come from all over the world but manchester itself is 50/50 utd and city. A lot of other fans from all over probably wouldn't be supporters if we were in the 2nd division for example, while some would. A lot of people support what their family do which is understandable.

Honestly he probably was. But you know he has been far better behaved this year than previous and has made an effort, which no one wants to seemingly acknowledge. He needs to channel his aggression positively back into his game which isn't always an easy thing for any player to do who thrives on the emotion of the game. But he plays fair, doesn't go out to injure or hurt opponents in tackles, doesn't dive and I guess expects the same from others. He was furious at that tackle on Ronaldo and frankly showed respect towards Ronaldo in his defense of him risking a 2nd yellow which after the WC incident is admirable if a bit silly. Wayne is always going to have that edgy passion in his game and to see it disappear completely would see the smothering of what contributes to him being such a force.

Rooney is just like Roy Keane was before him, and Eric Cantona before that. They are all wired like guns with hair-triggers. You never know when or why they will just go off. Giggsy needed to grab him by the collar and give him a talking to, but I'm not sure that's Ryan's way. Maybe a lad like Scholes is better suited to do the chewin'.

Rooney will always be a hothead, and even if that has it's downsides, I think the positives are much better. His temper makes him play so passionately on the field that he will do whatever it takes to win. If I had a choice between contained Rooney and fiery Rooney, I want the latter. Players like him don't come around to often.

I kind of agree, but as others have noted it is a result of his frustration at wanting to be the best. Although he needs to channel his aggression a bit better I wouldn't want him to go too far the other way. Maybe his other half could put some oestrogen in his cereal every now and then!

I'm surprised by the answers of some United fan's claiming he needs to control his temper and he is out of control..........Some of Uniteds greatest hero's have had the same fiery temperament Cantona, Robson, Keane, Hughes.......If he lost that temperament I think he would lose an aspect of his game.

Luck had absolutely NOTHING to with him not being sent off...........christ almighty. He plays for the 'MIGHTY' Man United and woe betide any ref who goes against them - already on a yellow card then raising his fists to two other players, THEN mouthing off to the ref - ooh reeeeaaalllllly lucky - not. When are the players from 'big' teams going to be held fully accountable for their actions just as the little people are ????
P.S. Is it true that 98% of Man Utd fans don't actually come from Manchester?

ttony (double t)? - your parents were arsenal fans - soooo - where are you actually from?

Yes I expect you are right! But I do not think it`s all his fault, People know he has got a short fuse, so watch him and see how many try and wind him up. OK, I know he should be able to contain himself, But ask yourself this, in his situation would you be able to?

He should have been sent off definitely. That boy needs counselling, he is out of control, but is otherwise an incredible player.
