Guglielmo Marchese Marconi was an Italian inventor, best known for his development of a practical radiotelegraph system (the radio). As to him playing a "mamba", I guess it the words "Marconi and Mamba" just sounded good together. The Mamba they refer to is a music style and dance (the same way a waltz is) not a Black Mamba snake. We Built this City...on rock and roll. Rock and roll was the first music style that was influence predominantly by radio. Most other music styles (prior to rock and roll) originated before the radio was invented.

Marconi is Nestor Marconi who was famous for playing the Bandoneon, which is very similar to an Accordion and yes they made a mistake with the word mamba and it should be mambo. It is about Marconi playing a song. It has nothing to do with him inventing the radio. Enjoy!!

Marconi invented the radio-- at least he was one who claims he was the first to invent it. I think "Starship" meant to sing "mambo" instead of "mamba", because you can play a mambo, but playing a mamba could be dangerous. ;0)

Marconi invented the radio, and a mambo is a Latin dance. So the idea is that the radio is playing the Latin song, and they are trying to be cute with their lyrics.

I believe Marconi invented the radio. And they're saying "mambo" - the dance.
