I'm a classroom assistant. The other day another assistant came into the class asking to borrow a stanley knife. So the teacher told me it was on her desk. I looked and looked - couldn't find it. She got all stressed with me, slammed her books on the floor, walked over to her other desk, found the knife and shouted 'CATCH!!!' and threw it right at me. It missed and fell to the floor. Is this right???? I didnt know what to do, I was in shock; I picked the knife up and gave it to the other assistant. Since then the teacher I assist has been treating me like crap.
What will I do? Please help I feel so sad and miserable and don't want to quit my job as I like it so much :-( I'm 18.

That was ridiculous!! I think you should go immediately and tell someone in charge about that. I know you might be afraid of the conflict it will cause, but I think she should have some consequences for that kind of behavior. That is no way to behave and is especially no example for her to set for the children she teaches. You could also ask to be moved if a position becomes available in another classroom. If you'd rather talk to her than report her, just tell her that you don't appreciate being treated that way and that her behavior really upset you. You deserve to be treated professionally and with respect. I don't blame you for being upset!!

First of all, were there children in the classroom at the time? If yes, then it is very important that she be reported to the principal or supervisor immediately! If it was you, the teacher and the other assistant, I would watch carefully for other signs of distress from this teacher. Her manner with others, especially the children is most important!
Alert your principal/supervisor if you think it was anything other than "just a bad day" or if children were present.
Don't give up your job! You sound like someone who should be helping kids : )
PS - I have been an educator for over 40 years and have never heard of such dangerous behavior.

You need to tell someone in charge what happened? She sounds seriously stressed! But throwing a knife at someone (especially in a classroom of children) is dangerous and sets a bad example. She needs to be talked to. That is one of the most irresponsible things I've heard of a teacher doing!!!!!

If she threw a knife at you consider filing assault charges against her with the police. She's a jerk and you can put up with it or not put up with it. You'll probably remain sad and miserable as long as she keeps it up and you put yourself at her disposal. You don't like your job because it makes you sad and miserable. Can't have it both ways. You're 18 for God sake, have some fun, loose the creep.

Tell administration (document it) you never know when that teacher has done other things to other kids. Don't let it get out of hand (I would also let your parents know too).

maybe she is streesed over for another reasons but she treats you bad. be patient and wait for a few days and try to understand if shes really having problems about another topic. when you see her a bit better(not angry), talk to her and politely ask if you were doing something wrong..etc.
