The reason that so many additional taxes now exist are probably very complicated. Rather than increase taxes, gov'ts. create new ones.

Additionally, they tax things to coerce your behavior(sin taxes) and to fund those things which the government has decided needs to be done.

The problem here isn't how much your taxes are. That is a symptom of a wider problem, which is that the government pays for things and performs duties that aren't, on the federal level, constitutional.

On the state and local level, it exists in much the same way. Governments do things which simply shouldn't be in their realm of duty or authority, such as redistributing income.

So, the problem isn't really the taxes. If we eliminated extra-constitutional expenditures and unnecessary programs, then we could have tax solutions.

They do it because they can. If you want a strong military, good roads, a retirement account, "free" healthcare, good schools, and a strong economy you have to get the money from somewhere. Taxes are not all bad, but excessive taxation is.

Better idea. No taxes. We'll just send the soldiers looking for their paychecks to your front door. Happy now?

The government overextends its intended boundries and tries to do to much. Thus they need too much money.

That's how the govt gets the money to do all the things it does.

The more the govt does, the more money it needs to do it.
