They don't need to be in groups but like all fish they will look nicer with more then just one.

Swordtails don't need to be in a group, but they are more enjoyable to watch if you have more then 1. It is best to have like 2 females & 1 male

No, but they do like a friend or two, i have 4 swordtails in a 10 gallon.

They need to school. 4 would be a minimum. Males are aggressive towards males, especially when competing for females. Best to get 1 male and 3 females.

No. I have 1 male guppy in my tank and he seems fine, just plays with his other tankmates.
