The link leaves out the truth.

Those countries have a much higher percentages of children going to faith-based schools, have much stricter parents in general, have a higher percentage of islamic fundamentalists (especially amoung the young because of the immigrant population), and have a generally lower birth rate amoung older people as well.

They also fail more people out of school, and have very different education systems to that of the United States.

And sex ed is not as big in those countries, it's a much smaller part of the curriculum (much less time spent on it in continental Europe than in the US or UK).

Educating our kids on Sex must start in the home with the Parents. The problem with that is so many parents are uncomfortable discussing this Topic with their children and have a fit when the schools do it. Its time to take the Blinders off Parents. Children are experimenting at an earlier age, and even though most are good kids, they are normal and peer pressure plays a major role. I had one parent tell me she was not gonna encourage her child to use a condom, that it was like giving her permission to have Sex and I replied, Wake up Mom, We all like to think our kids will never do that and so many of us are hit with reality when Our daughter comes home and tells us " Mom I am pregnant" Its too late to start Educating them then. Thats not to say that even if we educate them, they will not get pregnant. We have to do the best we can and trust Our children to be smart and think before they leap. But we all have our heads in the sand if we think Our children will not experiment with Sex. Parents talk to your Kids, but remember we are Not with them 24/7. Its better to be Safe, than Sorry.

What, be responsible for ones self? Doesn't that go against the current American ethic?

And the government staying out of our every dealing, impossible. We have fewer rights than many countries, and fewer every day. The current government wants more involvement, not less.

The article you referenced was spot on. Thank you.

To many of the dimmer members of our society, the important thing isn't about logic, results, or being realistic, but rather that the program fits into their particular moral beliefs.

Thanks to them we will enjoy many more years of being near the bottom of industrialized nations on many issues, including this one.
