The teacher probably is doing this to keep students from cheating. If you take the same quiz and you are out another student could copy the test questions or answers. Also to prevent cheating the teacher has to make another test. Which is there job to make test, but the teacher could feel if you cannot make it to the test and make them have to do more work then she will make it more work on you. And you also have an extra day to prepare.

No, it's not mean. How is the teacher supposed to know if you were sick or just wanted an extra day to study?? When it really comes right down to it, you chose to take the hard test. You got sick and you could either A) go to class and take test and go home afterwards or B) stay home sick and take harder make up test. Life is about choices, you chose to take the hard test. Failing one test is not going to hurt your grade that much. As long as the teacher uses this rule with everyone, it is a fair rule, not mean. Teacher was helping you decide what was more important at the time. You knew by staying home that you would get the harder test when you returned. I know this is not the answer you were looking for--Sorry!

How do you know that the test was much harder?
I can see that a teacher would want to change the questions so that you couldn't get information from other students. Making the test harder, even if you were out for a couple of weeks, would not allow you to assimilate that much more information.
First think I would do is speak with the teacher about a makeup test. If you can't get a makeup then I would try to get copied of both test and ask the department head or dean to review them.

i think it is wrong.... if you are genuinely sick... you did not have an extra day to study b/c chances are you were passed out all day... I would go talk to a counselor or principal and let them know you feel like you are being "picked on" especially if you can back up your sickness with either a note or some type of documentation. I don't believe you should have been given the same test as everyone else but an equivalent ... or she should be grading you on a curve...

That is mean. Tell the counselor and principal (the principal is their boss, so they have a LOT of authority over what the teacher does).
This is what my school does if you miss a day:
There is a teacher that gets there at about 6:30-6:45 am and you have to make up the test at 6:45-7:30 (within that 45 minute period).

If there's too much of a difference in difficulty then It's not fair. I myself teach part time, and If my student cannot make a test I give them a harder one, but not THAT much harder. I don't like to see my student suffering because of a test actually, haha because I know how it feels =p
But usually the test should be harder, because no matter what the reason you have a chance to study more than the other students. If you get one with the same difficulty it wouldn't be fair to the other students, right? ^_^

It's hard on you; probably the teacher has had experience with students not being present on test day and then asking other students what the questions were, so that they would be more able to take the test. Shows that cheating hurts everybody, even though you didn't do that.

Did you have a doctor's note? From a teacher's point of view, if you are sick, you go to a doctor. if you can produce the note, he'd probably give you the original test.

well, i think that if you were really sick you should try to talk to your teacher and explain her that...even do if you really studied the other test couldn´t be that hard...any way you shoul talk to the principal, and let him know what happened..good luck

That is like so not fair. Maybe your teacher didn't believe you were sick so he or she gave you a harder test.
