get a advance confirm booking of any airlines which operates from New Delhi to Punjab and back to Mumbai. If this is your first time visit to india or want to enjoy your time in India with your family member or mates, do not waste your time on Bus/Train. Because i know for someone who is not familiar with Indian way of life how harsh it could be. And when i mean "Advance Confirm Booking" do not co-promise on that, even if you had to pay some extra bucks, instead of wasting your time in fighting with red tapism of India way of work culture, enjoy the Country of Color....

Indian railways is the best in the world - networkwise.
Trains per se may not match western standards but the network is just amazing.
Trains can take you from anywhere to anywhere in India and very cheap too.
If you are a foreigner i suggest you travel by the A/c compartments - though all trains wont have A/c facility

If you don't have too much time, you can fly to these cities. Try some of the new economical airlines like SpiceJet, Air Deccan, Air Sahara and you will be able to get a flight ticket cheaper than a train ticket. If you have some time and want to explore the countryside, train will be a better idea.

hey
i went to kerala last october and loved it so its worth a visit there.
but we got around with our tour company they were great and organised everything we had a driver and a car many hotels provide cheap drivers accomidation and they all know where they are going. i wouldnt recommend hiring a car out there as driving is very scary there but getting ur own driver is fab.
also i wouldnt trust rickshaws spesh late at night they can be very dangerous.
hope u have a great time

Train, or if there's an airport nearby then fly. The roads are not very good and theres not a highway code so you take a risk

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU COULD GET THE TRAIN UP THERE BUT NOW YOU DO GET REAL CHEAP FILIGHT FOR THE PRICE OF A TRAIN TICKET TO NEW DELHI.
TRY GOING BY PLAIN,AND THEN IF YOUR HEADING TO THE VILLAGE'S OF YOUR GRAN PARENT'S IF THERE IS NO AIR PORT THERE THEN DO IT BY THEM BOSS A/C CAR'S THEY HAVE DO IT ONLY IF YOU HAVE A PARTNER TRAVELING WITH YOU.
GOOD LUCK GIVE THE TRAIN A MISS.IT'S A REAL LONG WAY BY TRAIN AND YOU CAN GET SICK ON THEM.

Take the choo-choo train. Not the bus, or you'll be sorry. Get the best class you can afford, esp. if you're a woman, cuz the lad's will touch you in the crowded cars if they get a chance.
