Sounds like pink eye to me.I would take him to the doctor and get medicine for it, and it is contagious so you might get it too.

I'd see a doctor or go talk to a pharmacist. They can help you out bigtime. My advice is to call the pharmacist and ask if there's anything u can apply to your son's eye. Better yet, bring the baby to the pharmacy. The pharmacist will be most helpful. They can't give u antibiotics without a prescription, but if there's something 'over-the-counter' that will help, they will recommend it. If they think it needs antibiotics, then u go to emergency and wait it out. Make sure u clean it often with a clean facecloth each time. Don't ever wash both eyes with the same cloth, u may transfer the infection to the other.
Take all the precautions u can to keep it clean and healthy.
Good luck with this!

I didn't bother reading through all the answers so I apologize if I am repeating someone else. Your son's symptoms sound just like my daughter's when she had a blocked tear duct, which is very common in babies. I would call the doctor to make sure. My pediatrician didn't even bother having me come in,she could diagnose over the phone and prescribed an eye drop to help and told us to use a warm compress on her eye, like a washcloth. By the way, if your child does have a blocked tear duct, there's a good chance it will reoccur a few times over the next few weeks to a month.

It sounds like conjunctivitis. It's contagous so be careful to use towels etc only for him and wash your hands after dealing with it. Use cotton wool and cold boiled water to gently wash the gunk away from his eyes. Use a different piece of cotton wool for each swipe and definitely a different piece for each eye. I believe that you can now get the medication for this over the counter from the pharmacist without a prescription in which case I'd go and get some, but take baby with you so s/he can see. Ask for the yellow cream rather than the drops because the drops sting like mad and it was nearly impossible to get them into my son's eyes again once he found that out.

You can buy chloramphenicol drops (antibiotic for eyes) over the counter in the UK. If you have a supermarket nearby with a pharmacy in, they should be able to sell you some.
In the meantime, keep bathing the eye with a weak saline solution.
This does constitute an emergency by the way - so your GP must see you and the baby tomorrow. You cannot leave eye infections untreated.

Hi i am a nursery nurse of 6 years and from past experience i am 100% sure he has got conjunctivitis which in my nursery the nursery nurses would of noticed and would of called someone to come and pick up the child until it has been treated as it is very contagious and will need treatment that you can get over the counter. to get rid of the puss you must try not to touch it and try to keep the eye as clean as poss. get a warm damp tissue and wipe it clean and dispose of the tissue straight away. hope this helps :)

this is most definately conjunctivitis by the sounds of it. Its an eye infection which can be treated by medication. nothing to serious, most children and adults get it. its contageous, due to the ease of contamination between children so he shouldn't go back to nursery until he's better. (i work in a nursery myself and i am surprised the workers there didnt tell you what it was, when you work in a place like that you get to know all these things indepth).
take a visit to the chemist (pharmacy) and they will advise you on what to give him. in the meantime, keep his eye clean, try and get him to avoid rubbing it (i know thats hard) and when cleaning it, make sure you use clean tissues each time, dont use them on any other part of his body and wash your own hands afterwards to lessen the possibility of yuo catching it.
hope this helps. good luck

My daughter had this when she was little you need to have it checked it could be nothing but a clogged tear duct. If that's the case they will give some meds to clear it no big deal. If his eye is all red and itchy take him in to the er it could be pink eye and that is contagious, Has he had a cold lately that can be it to the tear ducts and the sinuses are in the same round about place and all work together.put a wrm commpress on it to lossen the hard stuff in the AM and it will come right off. I think he probably has a cloged tear duct.

My 19 month old daughter is going through the exact same thing at the moment, it is just in one eye and when I took her to the Dr they gave me Chloramphenicol drops, to be used 4x a day.
It can wait until the morning but in the meantime make up some saline water (salt and boiling water) allow it to cool and bathe the eye before he goes to bed. Clean cotton wool, wipe once only then discard and get fresh piece.
Phone GP in the morning to get him checked.

this happened two times to my son just take him to any urgent care or emergency room! Because obviously he is not feeling well and his eye is irritated they are just going to give you an ointment to put on his eye. But what you could do right now to help him feel better is get a warm washcloth and wet it with warm water and gently put it on his eyes and wipe off the discharge!
Good Luck and hopefully he get's better!

My son is having the same issue. Our Dr prescribed an ointment for it. Said it was infection from being sick. We were hospitalized for Rota a week before. Just keep rinsing his eye with a warm washcloth and wash your hands after handling. It could be from an allergy or infection. My hubby used to have the same problem when he was younger due to allergies. Hope this helps and good luck.
