Rome was very successful for a number of reasons - I'd be interested in knowing what you said in your test that you failed.

The major reasons are as follows,

1. A very highly trained and well-equipped permanent army
2. A sophisticated administration system
3. The practice of absorbing conquered peoples into being Roman
4. The practice of absorbing, rather than banning other religions
5. Recruiting local peoples into the army
6. A relatively high standard of living
7. Cash

I agree with one - but Rome didn't expand 'throughout the globe' It expanded eastward as far as Persia (modern Iran). all around the Mediterranean, into modern Spain and France and England.
