This is some information provided by "Abu" on another question...
Tom Delay's name was on the ballot before he resigned and ultimately decided to not run for re-election. Democrats filed a lawsuit arguing that the Republican Party could not legally name another candidate. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs overwhelmingly won the special election (to serve the rest of Delay's term) but lost in the general election to Nick Lampson 51% to 43%.
This is my district and while I was waiting in line to vote they wouldn't let a lady take a piece of paper with her to the voting machine so she could remember how to spell Shelley Sekula-Gibbs. There were also several elderly people having problems figuring out the machines.
I lived near the area where Tom Delay served. There is no question that the Democrats do not deserve that seat in congress.

First poster: Are you still confused as to how the presidential election works? I agree that we should probably go by the popular vote but thats just not how the dice fell in 2000. It's happened before and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.

Jim valentine: congrats, you are proof that democrats do in fact live in Houston, but nothing more. If you live in Houston you are a bold face liar if you try to claim anything other than a Republican majority for that district. That's every bit as much of a fact as Washington D.C. will always go democrat.

Steve C. : He did lose his seat, but in a fair election he would have lost it to a Republican, not a Democrat.

As always Democrats simply refuse to live by their own laws...
in a previous election in New Jersey, Torrecelli found himself in similar circumstances (only far more serious criminal allegations), the Dems knew they had no chance to win with the man, but had unfortunately waited too long to legally pull Torrecilli and replace him with a different candidate (same as the Republicans situation in Texas),
What did the Dems do...had the crooked Democrat judges in Jersey change the law for them.
The Democrats simply see the law as something to be used as a tool against Republicans , and to be ignored when it impedes their progress.
That is why I no longer am a Democrat.

That's my seat too, and I'm VERY glad it's held by a Democrat. Especially one with Lampson's reputation.
Have you even seen his record? Or are you merely another party patsy?
EDIT: Yes I live in Houston. But, honestly, I can't tell what the demographic is these days. According to the media, we are Republican slanted, but I can't trust the media these days. Especially since most of the people I talk to say Bush has pushed them back to the center and they're fed up with the Republican cronyism. So I'm not surprised that the election went to Lampson, and if you still think we are gung ho Republican in Houston, then you've got your head in the sand.

i'd not be speedy to leap the gun and say the Democrats are in sturdy structure. bear in options, this replaced into one one congressional seat, and a exceedingly rural one at that. in case you bypass around the country and look at different community outcomes, they're exceedingly in line with community politics (likely Republican parts vote casting for Republican applicants, likely Democratic parts vote casting for Democratic applicants). For the most section, Congressional Politics, particularly in the homestead, continues to be going to be community. even if the Democratic Incumbents are challenged harshly or no longer is as a lot because the State Republican activities. inspite of this, we haven't even lengthy gone by the Primaries yet. So stay tuned.

I might actually feel bad about that, but Tom Delay is a criminal, so they deserved to lose the seat. If Delay could obey the law, they would not have lost the seat to begin with.

I'm not sure, is it as often as Republican Governers both underhandedly and blatantly steal the presidential election?
EDIT: Oh no no, not at all. I understand about Popular vote Vs. The Electoral College.
I just think it's interesting that the Supreme court that Dubbya's father put into place told the state of Florida "You can do an official recount to see who actually won, but oops, you are out of time. Bush wins!"
Struck me as odd, really.
