Easier would be if you want true scale it would have to be approximately 8 ft long. Get a bamboo pole , they some times use them to roll up new carpets so check a store that sells carpet. You can purchase one at a garden centre.
Is it a combat version or Jousting version. Combat version has a metal point , not like an arrow head but long and narrow either round or fluted. The jousting version has a metal or wooden ball at the end that was sometimes wrapped in leather, remember this was suppose to be a sport. The handle was wrapped in leather for grip up to the guard. The handle was at least 2 ft long, depending on the knight. The guard was cylindrical to deflect the opponents Lance and had a pillow behind it to protect the jousters hand.
I hope this helps.

I do medieval re-enactment and we use bamboo and fun noodle. Amtgard.com has links for instructions on how to make simple weapons.
