few, really...i mean, the pick (plectrum) is pretty much there b/c it's the best thing, but i like to 'hybrid pick' and do some slap bass stuff on my electric guitars, so i use my fingers, too. i also do alot of fingerpicking stuff when on teh electric, but i really like to dig in and groove - get lots of popping happening, you know? :)

i know sonic youth used the voilin bow, but it didn't work so well, if you ask me.

OH SH!T!!! i remember something that you may LOVE!!!!
have you ever played with an 'ebow?' it's so much fun. i throw it in my bag every time i'm called into the studio (i'm a studio guitarist). this is such a cool little tool. it creates like a 'reverse attack' sound, and if you put your reverb up high and crank the distortion, but cut the guitar volume, you get some cello-ish sounds, too! really, really fun to play around with!

have fun! (guitar playing kicks @ss, doesn't it? :) )

peace,
g

A guitar pick works just fine for me. Of couse, I assume you are already running the guitar through a Marshall half stack.
