Let's say you had to complete a series of courses before you could be issued a marriage license, and that divorce would cost you a fine and some community service.

What might be some of the lecture topics in your "Relationships 101" class?

How about "Compromise - the art of problem solving."

More ideas?

It really wouldn't be a bad idea to have a class though. Something to bring up common problems married people have, to see if you can get through them in mock, before you get married. Obviously it cant be mandatory. But to be widely available would be useful, and even entertaining for some. We went to a church one , that was mandatory before we were able to marry; it was so unorganized, thus very inefficient at any real problems that may have or would occur. If marriage is going to last forever?? then whats a couple week course, lets say 30 hours in the classroom. Even a book that is updated and sold at local stores(amazon, Barnes+noble) would be nice too. You could add it to a community college program, as part of Human Resources Curriculum?, or something of the sort.

Heres you next subject

Selfish and selfless - Let the giving begin and the happiness reign

Please no fines, the lawyers "ARE" the fines; and the in-laws "ARE" the community service..

Just realized the absolue most important part of a class like this. It's to ask questions to your potential spouse that you otherwise would not feel confortable asking or not even think of. You might think they would answer yes, so sure you don't even ask it, when they say no, it can be mind blowing enough to not even get married.

Well, one of the main topics should be honest open communication. Then a section dealing with myths and rumors about marriage. Like married people having sex 24/7.

if I were teaching this class I would have my students read sun tzu's the art of war. Some situations can be applied to relationships.

I would look at the scripture in Ephesians 5:33 "Nevertheless let each on of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband!" WHy does God give that instruction to people? Women need to be loved and constantly assured that her husband loves her. She automatically loves and does not need to be told to love, but God says she must SEE that she RESPECTS her husband. WHy? Women easily lose respect for their husbands. The picture the media paints of men today is sad and not realitic but because people glue thei eyeballs to the screen what they take in comes right out of their mouths. Garbage in, garbage out! Today the world is enacting the story of the emperors new clothes and it will take a child to tell them the truth and point out the realities of what corrupting the truth has done to mankind. If we listened to the biblical truths and lived according to them life would really be incredible, but people turn away from it, because either they are blinded to the truth or they like the lies better. My suggestion is to get the book Love and Respect written by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs and you will have a very successful assignment to hand in!

The differences between male and female communication.
How to disagree without being disagreeable.
Active listening.
How to create a real partnership in your marriage.
Etiquette for a marriage.
How to honor your partner's privacy and need for "space" (I should be able to phrase that better, but it's not happening)
When honesty is not the best policy. Things your partner does not need to know.

I THINK SOME "BASIC SURVIVAL" TECHNIQUES WOULD BE IN ORDER........SUCH AS:

1. BOTH SHOULD HAVE TO COMPLETE A COOKING CLASS AND BE ABLE TO PREPARE A MEAL THAT CONSISTS OF MORE THAT MAC N' CHEESE, RAMEN NOODLES, AND SCRAMBLED EGGS.

2. HUSBANDS SHOULD HAVE TO PASS A "HOUSE CLEANING" CLASS. HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO WASH DISHES, VACUUM, DUST, SWEEP, MOP, AND DO LAUNDRY (FROM START TO FINISH).

3. WIVES SHOULD HAVE TO PASS A "MECHANICS" CLASS. SHE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THE BASIC STUFF LIKE...AIR UP A TIRE, CHECK AND CHANGE THE OIL, ETC.

4. WIVES SHOULD HAVE TO PASS A "YARD MAINTENANCE" CLASS. SHE SHOULD BE ABLE TO MOW THE GRASS AND PICK UP A FEW STICKS HERE AND THERE.

5. BOTH SHOULD HAVE TO PASS AN "ACCOUNTING" AND/OR AN "ECONOMICS" CLASS.

6. THE HUSBAND SHOULD HAVE TO PASS A "UNDERSTANDING HORMONES" CLASS. (THAT'LL BE THE ONLY HOPE HE'LL HAVE OF SURVIVING...)

7. BOTH SHOULD HAVE TO PASS A "PARENTING" CLASS, IN CASE THEY DECIDE TO REPRODUCE LIKE NORMAL MARRIED PEOPLE DO.

THAT JUST ABOUT COVERS IT....UNLESS YOU WANT TO ADD AN "ALL INCLUSIVE EMOTIONAL" CLASS WHICH WOULD COVER THINGS LIKE: TRUST, COMMUNICATION, COMPASSION, LOYALTY, SINCERITY, HONESTY, ETC.

BY THE WAY.....WHAT A GREAT TOPIC!!!!!
