Do they call the person that the spouse cheated with the homewrecker?
Isnt the person responsible the one who cheated? I mean they broke the home so they are the homewrecker.

Im not saying that the person they are cheating with isnt responsible also. But get real here, the problem starts at home. Happily married people just dont cheat. There is an issue there somewhere. I just think the person doing the cheating in the first place is the homewrecker.

and CAC- no I've been in a happily commited relationship for the last 2 1/2 years.
When I was married, my husband was a colassial a$$. But I never blamed whomever he got invoved with. It was his fault. He wasnt raped. He went on willingly. Thus....divorce ;o)

And_Y_Knot: you are right. No one ever calls a man that. Aside from that, it appears that the most adamant responses are from women who apparently have/had cheating husbands.

good point, often the wrong person is blamed for the wrong doing when it comes to cheating. Many women get pissed at the other female and not their cheating spouse/sig. others.

yes but its so much more fun and easier to be pissed at the other one and not the spouse. Half the time, the other one isn't even aware of the spouse or significant other. I don't understand it either. If your husband cheated on you, you should be mad at him not the woman he cheated with. I think its more of a jealousy feeling, we always want to hurt the one we are jealous of. I definitely think the one who cheated should be called the homewrecker, because no matter what he or she is the one who was unhappy and went outside the marriage. Now if the woman knows he's married and pursues him, she could be called a homewrecker but then it comes back to if he acts on it, then he again becomes the homewrecker. So I agree the one who steps out of the marriage should indeed be called the HOMEWRECKER! We should refer to Gretchen Wilson's song which implies what I said, about if the woman knows he is taken and still pursues him, she is a homewrecker.

Yes you are right it takes two to tango but if the women has moral fiber and knows the guy is married would usually say sorry buddy your married some women would probably slap him and yell at them you cheating scumbag. Yes the person cheating is in the wrong but the person that says yes is in the wrong more so because they have the right to say no because they are already taken by another lady. I think society looks at the mistress as the homewrecker more because they had the right to refuse a married man's flirtations what have you. I'm one to believe that both are in the wrong and both should be treated as equally to blame for the homewrecking adultery causes.
God Bless!

They are both homewreckers. The one on the outside is only innocent if they had no clue the other person was married. But if you know someone is married and don't walk away your a homewrecker just as much as the married party...might get labeled a whore too.

I am noticing that, although most people are phrasing their responses neutrally, those who are NOT are unanimous in assuming the outside party and accused homewrecker is FEMALE. I have never heard the term used on a man, whether he be the cheating spouse or the interloper.

But the one that the spouse cheated with, if they knew the spouse had a family, went in and aided in destroying a relationship. Were that person a better one, they would stay out of it, and be nothing more than friends.

True. But the person outside the marriage and/or relationship is commonly referred to as the 'homewrecker' b/c they occupy the role of the third party. I agree that the person who broke the vows and/or promise is the responsible party.

I guess they both are but when I think of homewrecker I think of the person they cheated with because it couldn't have happened without them.

Long ago, I dated a man who hid the fact that he was already married. ONLY DATED, not slept with.
Six months later, the wife checked his cell phone records and called me, I didnt know she existed, and since we just dated a few times, nothign really happened. But I was just as disgusted as she was, because I had been lied to. I apologized and told her he said he was divorced. I am sure that helped her cause to get on his butt.
Men who lie are scumbags ( I didn't say all men, calm down)
