There was construction across the street from me and when they cleared the field they are building on all the mice from down there are comming into the houses of the residents around here and I was just wondering what the best bait to use in the traps is. I use Peanut Butter because it sticks but I'm open to suggestions if someone has better stuff. Oh, I'm using just the regular Victor mousetraps not the humane kind. Sorry to all you mouse loving folks out there.

We had the same problem when they redid the golf course across the street a few years ago. Peanut butter works great, just make sure it's fresh. The scent attracts them so replace it every few days or so. Don't put too much on and make sure it's smeared in the crevices so they really have to work at it. That way they don't clean the trap without getting caught. Also most of the time you have to adjust the traps to get them to work best. Bend the catch until you almost can't put the trap down without setting it off. The hair trigger will certainly catch them. My husband also just got some new traps that work pretty well. They look like a giant plastic paper clamp. They're called "The Better Mousetrap" by Intruder Inc. He found them at Walgreen's. Good Luck!

I always use peanut butter but sometimes those pesky mice are pretty darn smart. So when they have beat me with the pb, I put a little drop of syrup on the trap and put a little piece of bread in it. Over time the syrup hardens and the bread is harder to get off the trap.

I’ve tried using the peanut butter, seeds, etc, but the traps stay un-touched. I use American cheese, really squished onto the trap, that seems to be what works the best here.

Why I have my birdseed in a sealed bucket, Its a hit and miss thing with baiting a mousetrap.

Experiment with peanutbutter mixed with some birdseed on the outside, and try some cheese with birdseed squished on the outside. Eitherway, I know they would eat my damn birdseed that I keep outside if I didnt have it in a sealed container.

peanut butter, the smooth kind smeared on the top and bottom of the trigger. Always has worked for me.

cheese covered in peanutbutter

but i suggest you use the sticky traps instead because many mice know how to getr the treats on mousetraps without getting trapped

Peanut butter works well. I also have rabbits, so I have found rabbit yogurt treats work really well.
