I have almost completed my dissertation for my psychology undergraduate degree, but the thing is, in my module booklet it just says must not exceed 10,000 words!! I have only manged 8,000. I can't write anymore as there doesn't seem to be anything more I can add!! Will this matter? What is the minimum word limit does anyone know? I understand that most essay's give you 10% under or over but even with this 10% I am still 1000 words under. I have emailed my supervisor to ask if 8000 words is enough but they haven't got back to me. Any advice will be much appreciated!! Thanks!!

It doesn't say that you have to have 10,000 words -- just that you can't have more.

I suspect that 8,000 is enough -- as long as you have something interesting to say. Your professors will care much more about the content than the length. They may even lower your grade if you put more in just to extend it.

It is likely that that is simply a maximum. If you have fully addressed your topic, and feel that you have made your arguments, then you should stop.

Maybe have a friend who doesn't know your topic read it, and see if it makes sense to them. I am working on my master's thesis in psychology right now, and that really helped me. My friends (who are also in psychology) were able to approach the paper with fresh eyes. They actually caught a few places where I was not being clear, because I understood my topic so well that I took the information I thought was common knowledge was not.

Also, as a someone who has taught classes before, I would mugh rather have a shorter paper that makes clear, concise, and well developed arguments than one that is made longer by fluff. In the field of psychology, there is often a word maximum for publication, so there is a benefit to learning how to write in a consice manner.

Hope this helps. Don't stress. Good content beats extra length anyday.

okay..make sure you reach your 10,000 words!! when it comes to dissertations the word limit is there for a reason. you will be marked down if you dont use it and the external examiners will be more harsh in their marking. i am a post graduate and know how hard you doing. my undergrad wasw 10k too in social scienes - criminology and sociology. Try and expand your literature review or research methods sections. research methods section can take up an amazing amount of words. essays are very diff in their 10% rule.you can heave some allowence but not in dissertations. you can always email me and ill have a look for you...aytenkinloch@yahoo.co.uk

Where did you get the 10% factor from? If you feel that number is relevant then you are short at least a 1,000 words, otherwise the booklet only states you must not exceed10,000 words as the criteria.

Hi, I'm doing an undergrad one in Sociology, and I was told that the upper limit is an absolute one, but there is no lower one, as long as you feel you've covered your topic thoroughly and have answered your research question. 8,000 should be fine; The upper limit is just there to prevent people going crazy with it I think, and my supervisor told me that brevity is a virtue! You should be fine. Good luck with it!

"As candy by utilising the different call: A assessment of very own-Label and manufacturers' manufacturers in the food industry" This call alludes to a line in Shakespeare you ought to study as managing sort (Montagues, Capulets? that's each and all of the comparable!): "what's in a popularity? That which we call a rose by utilising the different call might scent as candy." it would be an fantastically sturdy call in case you narrowed down your assessment to baked products or ice creams or some thing candy. in all probability a sturdy thought to slender your subject count slightly in a dissertation besides, IMO. EDIT: @ resigned... super minds think of alike!

Find a few theories that you disagree with that you can refute, and include some examples to strengthen your argument. I'm sure there are opposing points of view and some similar cases somewhere in your library, whatever your topic (especially in psychology).
