because if you were to cut down a Xmas tree you would be braking an entering some ones house. evergreen trees grow outside. there are special tree farms for this reason.people would make a mess of things as they always do ,if let to go cut down trees on there own an what about the animals that live in those wile trees.

Well, the trees all belong to someone....if you have your own little tree growing in your yard and you want to cut it down and bring it in the house for a few weeks at Christmastime, nobody is going to care. However, if you go whacking someone else's tree down, they ARE going to care. Furhtermore trees on National Forests, etc. don't belong to you either. The gov't needs to be compensated for trees taken there, and it wants to be able to tell you which trees you can take- therefore you need to get a Christmas tree permit even if you go to a National Forest.

For silly. Unless its someones blue spruce in the yard, or you are intending on taking something you don't have a right to, you can go to a christmas tree farm and pay for the privilege. Tell you what. Grow your own and let it go for 7 years and then cut it down. You can still go into the wild. It just matters who's wild you are trespassing on!

The tree farmers, are exacally that tree farmers, for each tree that is cut down they plant a new one. Therefore, their not endangering the tree population.

Also, the tresspassing issues. On someone elses land they may want to keep the trees. That are rightfully theirs.

Because you are probably stealing it from someones private property. Dont be so cheap. dont forget that someones job depends on it. If it bothers you that much, go buy a fake one at Sears.

Well someone owns those trees, so if you didn't have their permission back in the day it was illegal then too.
