Not everyone is identical to everyone else, so there is no one age or single reason to retire.

Some people never retire -- they love their work and are able to do it until they die.

Other people want to retire as early as possible so they can do what they want. (So it's a financial decision.)

Some people retire when they find they are just too tired to keep doing what they've been doing.

There is no one answer to either of your questions.

You got people working over 102 years old currently, i would bet this man on NBC news the Willard Scott section has filed for retirement pay or social security some time ago, but it is his right to collect the social security & work if he wants! He currently works 5 days a week M-F! I hope he is putting immigrants & young punks who should be drafted in to the military out of a job! Older people are wiser they should never be displaced by younger know nothing snot-nosed punks even it they are almost 40 years of age.

It should be up to that individual as to when they want to retire. Personally I will retire when I can afford to. Some people would much rather work than do nothing. You hear of people dieing shortly after retirement cause they have little or nothing to get up for. Trust me, I can find something to do. I just want my health.

You can retire when you can no longer work OR when you do not want to work any longer.
If you're someone who believes that saving up over a lifetime will take care of your retirement, then you work as many years as you physically can.
If you're like me and believe that investing in assets can take care of you, then you may retire earlier or at least when you become debt free. You must learn how to make your money work for you so that you don't spend most of your days working for money. I love coaching people on these matters.

I had to retire at 64 for health reasons. some say go as long as you want..In the last few years i found my self taking short cuts,I loved my work as a driving instructor But the company got a union and working conditions got worse, Ithink that you sdchould enjoy life relaxing and doing things for you. Not the boss. Every day i wake up happy looking forward to a great day. My daughter says i am a new man..

A person should retire when they no longer want to work, or when they are no longer physically or psychologically able to cope adequately with the work situation, or when they have put aside enough money (or won the lottery!) to enable them to quit a secure job and look for other things to do.

As late as they are physically able and can afford to.

By maximizing the years worked, you will increase your Social Security benefit and can accumulate more savings to sustain you through retirement. Additionally, it has been found that people who remain in the workforce longer are healthier and exhibit more vitality than home-bound seniors.

i think if you are physically able to perform your jobs demands then there should not be an age restriction.(unless you want to retire)

When they are no longer capable of performing the job, or when they are no longer interested in doing so.

Of course the other factor is when they can afford to.
