Global War on terrorism is a lame name for this war. There is so much terrorism in the US that we should fix ourselves before we fix others. What win means to me in the war would be for the soldiers to come back safe, and not have to keep cycling through. Their families need them, but year after year they are kept there. A soldier will do 1 year of duty, then come home for a rest only to be welcomed back with orders to go back. Our supply of troops is running thin, and all that is left are fatigued men and women. Trying to keep your A game is tough when it seems hopeless. Iraq needs to stand up for itself. When it can do that without the help of the US military. When they feel safe enough to go about their business and not have the fear of dying. When the US feels they can pull out safely, then we won. We may have to help re enforce the Iraqi soldiers every now and then, but when they can help themselves, they have won.

Unfortunately that word has little meaning in our country anymore. Every kid at field day gets a ribbon, kids can't play games in school that have a possible outcome of losing. That is the welfare society we have created. I understand this is a transgressive rant.

The object from the beginning was to oust the government of Sadaam and his armed forces. Which took what a week. Then the objective changed when we realized just how psycho the Iraqi people were. I admit the Bush admin was somewhat naive thinking the people would stand up together and thank us for ending their oppression. But give G-Dub the benefit of the doubt, that maybe that is exactly what he thought would happen, that is certainly what is reasonable, and perhaps he didn't have a plan for the possibility that they wouldn't be exactly grateful.

I do think we have to consider letting them stew in their own miasma. But just leaving abandons those poor people who actually are grateful for our actions. That is not reasonable. When they are able to defend themselves and control their country then by all means we should pull the bulk of our troops. But do you really think, it was ever our goal to have no military presence in that country? One goal was certainly to have long-term military bases in that country to protect our interests and those of our allies.

So win we have, but there is still winning to do.

No. The word is undefined.

We're the only ones defining our goals, and we're the only ones that can draw our own finish line. We can declare victory at any time, because we're the only ones defining what we are trying to accomplish. So, in that sense, "win" is meaningless because we can simply declare we've won at any point.

Well, here's one idea...
There is actually a provision in the conditions for US withdrawl, which states that 75% of Iraqi oil fields are to be under the control of US Oil Companies. That should give you an idea of why we went there in the first place, and what "win" means for the Bush Admin.

Unfortunately, the current geniuses in the administration have never read Orwell's 1984, so they are unable to recognize their own doublespeak , e.g., Ministry of Love = House of Torture; Ministry of Plenty = House of Food Rationing; Ministry of Truth = House of Propaganda.

"Win" is present tense, what we did we have already won, past tense. Saddam is history and a foul history at that.

Sorry but your boyfriend had to be taken out.

nobody "wins" when another country invades a weaker one. america lost somewhere around 3 billion i hear and counting on the war, not to mention about 3,200 american lives. iraq , well iraq lost more than iraqi lives. they lost their homes, future (amputees), and there has been many protests in the world. nobody wins in war.

To win you have to have an objective. I don't think anybody really knows what that is anymore if they ever did.
