Many manufacturers and retailers put Owner's Manuals on their website as downloadable PDF documents. Sears is famous for not doing so. In the end, you should be able to have Sears send you a free copy, if you stand your ground. After all, you are their customer. An insistent call to their Customer Service department should do the trick.

Good luck with your problem.

Have you tried seeing if there is a kenmore website? Also if you type sewing machine manuals into the search bar, you could come up with several different sites that will sell you a manual, I had to find one for a singer machine that's about 30 years old, it cost $20 but we found out how to do what we wanted. Here is a site that will take you straight to the a page that contains it. http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Manuals/Kenmore_Manuals/1756_Instruction_Manual.htm
