I call everything carry out. But you are right, in the movies Chinese food is referred to as chinese take out.
I think when it was new it was something obscure or considered high end..so they had to call it something that sounded classier than "to go"...like you would say at Mickey D's.
Just a guess.

Here in Memphis our Chinese restaurants deliver (most of the ones I go 2 anyway)/ but I dont know why but people have always called chinese food take out.

I'm in Philadelphia - we have plenty of chinese food restaurants that deliver. Maybe it's just the "tradition" of places in Cleveland.

There are chinese delivery places here everywhere. Maybe they call it take out because they have a hard time with english and that seems most logical to them.
