The Main Line refers to communities northwest of Philadelphia. The Main Line comes from the Main Line Railroad that ran between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. Communities that are on the main line include:
Ardmore
Bryn Mawr
Berwyn
Devon
Haverford
Malvern
Merion
Narberth
Radnor
Rosemont
St. Davids
Strafford
Villanova
Wayne
Wynnewood
There are many wealthy families that live on the Main Line, including music and sports celebrities.

Of the prior responders only Philly_Romantic got it right!
You could probably make a case for Upper Merion being part of the Main Line. Although Conshohocken is geographically close it's definitely not part of it. Media, Chester, and Warminster are no where close to the Main Line.
The term The Main Line originally referred to a section of railway of the Pennsylvania Railroad (today it's Septa's R5 Line). Today it refers to a section of the immediate western suburbs of Philadelphia & the R5 line (aka the Paoli local) runs right through the middle of it. Here's a map:

it's the ultra rich suburbs on the outskirts of phila. like Media,pa and king of prussia, Chester, conshohocken, Warminster, etc
