I am discusted when I read the blogs on yahoo. I read that Dirk is a choke artist and Kobe Bryant is a horrible player. Then I ready that Steve Nash never chokes even though he has never made it to the finals and that Shaq is still the most dominant player in the NBA. Why is it so damn hard to say that I do not like Dirk, but he is a great player. Why cant anyone say how good of a player Kobe is but still not like them. Real NBA fans look at the game, the stats, the untanagblies. When someone says that Dirk is a choke artists and Nash is the best that has ever been, an NBA fan should reply that Dirk has gotten farther than Nash has in the playoffs and has a better record this year. How about the two other times that Dirk has beaten the Suns this year. Kobe Bryant has 3 rings, and has All Star MVP's, scoring titles, he's done it all. But people say he sucks. People should love their teams, but cant NBA fans look past what they like anymore. In the past, Jordan respected Bird??

You are confusing two seperate issues. You single out NBA players and then you turn around and associate them with their teams. You said Dirk has gotten farther than Nash in the playoffs, true but you mean Dalls has gotten further than Phoenix? Given they do have influence over how their team does, but it is clearly not only up to just them. For example, take a look at the Lakers. They have Kobe Bryant as a superstar and arguably Odom is in the all-star category. However, with those two aside, the rest of the Lakers constitute bench warmers/substitutes/ "role players" on practically any other NBA team. Is it fare to compare Kobe Bryant by seeing how the Lakers would match up to someone like the Mavericks? Absolutely not! First off Dallas has a deep and better bench than the lakers as well as better starters in every position other than shooting guard and arguable small forward (odom). While in the end Championships are what people remember, it does not have very much weight in terms of reflecting on how great a player was. Take for example the Bill Russell/Wilt Chamberland match-up. Bill Russell, and the celtics won 11 championships, while Wilt won two championships. Does this make Bill Russell a better player than Wilt? No, it just means he had a better team. Wilt still has records that noone has even come close to touching such as the 100 point game, 55 rebound game, and an incredible season average of 50 ppg
With regards to your statement regarding people not giving credit where credit is due is because of jealousy. Either they have a personal vendetta against them, likely because their favorite team lost to them, or it's likely that they are just simply ignorant when it comes to basketball and do not understand it's simpleness as well as complexity. (An oxymoron in a sense.)

I am a true NBA fan... and to prove it I am still a Knick fan even after all these years of them losing.
Kobe will always be Cocky Bryant to me but I can't take his game away from him, its was great then and still is.
Dirk is true with his comments he has said about Wade and the Heat. Shaq knows that playoffs is all that matters and winning them games is all that matters to getting to the finals.
Its like all the March maddness upsets going on now. Were teams that's place like 13 is beating 5 seat teams. It doesn't matter how many games you have won. Its about getting there and still maintaining that top position.
Dirk has a ugly looking shot, but hey it always seems to make it in. Maybe this year will be his year. Who knows but it will most likely be someone from the west because the East has been playing terrible this year and previous years.

No, sports is being catered toward the casual fan because of money.
With that said the media will be whores focusing on addressing topics/stories that will create drama and in turn increase viewership and greater income (examples: TO, Kobe's rape case, Barry Bonds, A-Rod v. Jeter, etc.)
And unfortunately the casual fan is everywhere and doesn't look past what they like anymore because their only sports concerns are those that support their own selfish interests.
Kobe is a filthy, adultor but the best player in the NBA
Nash and Dirk are the best players on the best two teams in the NBA and LeBron for president.

I'm a real NBA fan and I understand exactly where you're coming from. Kobe is a great player, and I hate it when people say that he is a bad player, just by his personality or what he's done off the court. There are a lot of players I don't like in the NBA, but that shouldn't take away what they've done on the court. I still respect most of the players in the NBA and give them there props even though they may not like them.

Lots of people don't have respect anymore or knowledge.it's just the way they were raised. Sadly there are way to many of those people around.
The NBA has hit it's all time best. Last years playoffs had to be the best I have ever seen. Well until the Finals. There are many talented players and great teams. Anyone with an ounce of basketball knowledge can see that.

I´ll give you my point of view:
You can be fan of the NBA (or NCAA basketball) or you can be a fan of an NBA team (i.e. Lakers, Spurs, Dallas).
Each type of fan understands or sees the game from a different point of view, from stats or from your hearth and soul, those who insult Kobe, Shaq or whoever are Team fans, and they will never understand and whatch how good other players are.
Personally I am a hardcore Spurs fan, but when I dont follow my team, i try to view basketball objetively and find the pros and cons of each and every team and player.
