The simple answer is the longer we keep troops in the middle east we pose a threat to the oil supply which means prices get larger for it and translates into more profit. He has no intention of Iraq peace in mind and the insurgency is playing right into his hands.

There is no doubt that the Iraqi Government has some major trust issues and they need to step up to bat and get out of the practice box. This is the reason that there is no need to set a time table with pulling out of Iraq. Just like a parent never knows when a child will step up and be an adult. Pulling out know would be like kicking a 13 year old out of the house for good. More than likely they would fail and it would take years to get on there feet. George Bush is more of a sales person on this conflict. The Sennett and the house are the controllers of this or any war in our history. The best answer for the questions the government can not answer is to form a small commission for the people of Iraq and America to submit long form ideas to expel the insurgents and keep them out of Iraq. How to start a stable economy and keep it secure and protected. How to distribute the wealth of profits from natural resources. Last but not least put in place an education system equal or superior to ours here. Maybe several small groups of people can join to form a plan and in return be paid a reward of 50% if there plan is used and the rest of it if it works. If the government put up lets say $50 million. This would save money and who knows it might work.

I think it's because loose lips sink ships. Even if he considered or discussed a time table. Our media outlets would have it all over the planet, even before any real dates had been set. I (speaking as a soldier) don't want my enemies to know what my men are doing untill it is too late for them to do anything about it. Terrorist watch CNN, NBC,ABC,FOX and any other news media they can. They get more on what we are doing and/or going to. From the media coverage than they do anywhere else. I cringe every time a patrol leaves with a camra crew in tow. Not that the soldiers will be filmed doing something wrong, but that the media crew makes them a more inviting target. If a time table is establish, than those who do know about it, be it Reps or Dems, will need to be sworn to secrecy. So they will keep their big mouths shut. Giving our enemies a heads-up on our plans will only cost us more lives in the long run.

It emboldens the terrorists. They will know that if they go to ground and just be quiet, the troops will be withdrawn. With no real opposition, and an untrained Iraqi Army, Al Qaeda will be unresisted in their attempt to kill the fledgling democracy in Baghdad and turn Iraq into the new Afghanistan and attack America using Iraq as their new home.

Because it gives the enemy knowledge to allow them to wait us out. This is a weak analogy, I should be able to get my point across.

Lets say you are 16 and want to have a party at your house one night. Would you schedule the party in the odd chance your parents leave for the weekend? No, because odds are they won't. Now lets assume your parents tell you on Monday they are going out of town 3 Fridays from now and won't be back until Sunday evening. Would you schedule the party 3 weeks from now? Yes, because you know it will be safe since your parents won't be home.

Don't you think terrorists will do the same thing. If they know we will be out by say June of '08 they will just wait until then and do what they want.

Hmmm, i might perform a little extra homework. this is not as undemanding as that. although I agree that we are doing extra harm than reliable. the subject stems from mismanagement. Bush, Rumsfeld and others did not do thier homework as nicely earlier to sending troops into Iraq. As you and that i will relatively wager, the conflict in Iraq has not something to do with the conflict on terrorism. the subsequent objective is Iran and Iran is conscious this. What do you think of our government might do if the previous Soviet Union blustered approximately attacking the US? Oh, we already understand that answer for the time of the Cuban missile disaster. might desire to we get out of Iraq? shall we include credibility. shall we include how rapidly Iran might pass into to seize a weakened Iraq. shall we include right here few generations in Iraq and what this way of rapid withdraw might replicate to them. Now so some distance as permitting the Syrians and Saudis to pass in and kill off those whom we disagree with, isn't that concept as absurd because of fact the ideals of Hitler? it is like suggesting that destroying Isreal is the answer to the subject of the middle east and you and that i understand that that concept is an prolonged dream for many. yet while we would opt to help, the answer is to not back out yet to become plenty extra proactive with a society whose ideals are plenty, plenty distinctive than ours. this is not our interest to alter the way they stay thier existence yet to allow them the liberty to locate thier very own path. the US created the topics with the attack on Iraq and now that's time for the US to step to the plate.

Because telling your enemies when you plan to leave, or that you plan to leave at a date certain at all irrespective of conditions on the ground, tells them you are not serious about fighting them and that they only have to hold out (or hide out) until that date.

Why on Earth would you WANT to telegraph a deadline to them?

PS It is not a mistrust of the Iraqis, but clearly the Iraqis and Americans are stronger than the Iraqis alone.

Several have responded and have given you the answer. Not a very intelligent strategy, do you think?

IMO, the U.S., trusted the Iraqi government far too much.

A mere timaetable gives the insurgence the date as to when to wait! Would you ever trust Iraqi forces totally?

It makes no difference wheither we trust the Iraqi government or not. Think about it. If you were the insurgent murderers would knowing a certain date is coming embolden you or not?? Of course it would. To toss them that bone would be a huge mistake. The anti-war dolts don't get that though.

Why is a time table a good idea? Why wouldn't the terrorists lay low until we are gone? Do YOU trust the Iraqi government?
