Stan Musial was better than Mantle, or Ty Cobb in numbers. The only reason Stan Musial does'nt get the recognition is because he did'nt play for a New York or a Los Angeles. But had he played for NY or LA his name would be bigger than Mantle, Cobb, Babe, Gehrig, etc..But because St. Louis is a small city, players don't get the recognition they deserve as the ones on the coasts. Mark my words, Albert Pujols is on his way to creating Stan Musial like numbers, and by far, Stan Musial is one of the greatest players in baseball history ( better than A-Rod, Ortiz, Ramirez,etc.). Before you go responding to this, get your facts straight. I don't want opinions, just facts. And Santana is a pitcher (the best in the game right now). Barry Bonds fell apart since the roids allegations. A-rod is looking for a new house. Ortiz is NOT consistent and clutch. I'm surprised nobody mentioned Derek Lee as far as defense but he's not solid. Think and do your research before you react. Albert Pujols #1!

Pujols is the greatest hitter in the game today and actually is off to the best start of any hitter in MLB history. Stan the Man was great too but not as great as Ruth, probably in the same class as Gehrig, better than Mantle. He can't really be compared to Cobb who was a completely different type of hitter playing in the dead ball era.

I think it all depends on what you look for when you are talking about the best player in baseball.

Personally, I think that Ichiro is the best player in baseball. In 6 seasons here he has had at least 10 outfield assists 3 times and has never made more than 3 errors in one season.

He doesn't have the best power numbers, but he isn't a power player. There are few better at getting on base than he is, and once on the base he has the ability to do things with his feet that a lot of others don't. He also almost never strikes out, compared to a lot of players now.

He is more of a small ball player, but really the only reason he doesn't have numbers a lot better than he does is because there is no talent hitting behind him.

Musial? Musial, better than Mantle or Cobb? Musial was great and is underrated, but what numbers cannot tell you is that there is more to the game than offense.

"You can win with one run, you have to make 27 outs."
- Cal Ripken

Many people say that Ted Williams was the greatest ever. I don't agree. First of all, illiams was a Me Player in a team sport. Yes he was probably the greatest PURE hitter after 1920, but his defense (range and arm strength)wasn't great and he was a station to station runner at best, no stolen base threat.

The greatest for my money was Joe Jackson. He was a MARGIANLLY lesser hitter than Cobb and ran better than average. Where he surpassed Cobb was being a team player and defensively (better arm and range)

Short Answer - Musial was great and underrated, but his defense and the fact he was a 1b playing OF makes him a lesser all around player than Cobb or Mantle.

i do no longer plenty approximately it, I basically glanced on the link you gave. yet what Pujols seems asserting is clever. If my teammate did no longer prefer to be there, i might choose him long previous too. you do no longer choose somebody who would not prefer to be there on the group. I do think of that's selfish of Rasmus to prefer to be traded, fantastically because of the fact of ways public that's grow to be. that's in all probability distracting to the group. having pronounced that, i do no longer understand too plenty with regard to the entire ingredient. BQ1: that's impressive. jogs my memory of ultimate 3 hundred and sixty 5 days whilst A-Rod got here decrease back and hit a homer on the 1st pitch he observed. Very cool. BQ2: Sucks for the Rangers. i'm unsure of the right rule.. yet I did see the replay, and youthful did touch the 0.33 base coach. Like I pronounced, no longer precisely specific what the guideline says yet once you're no longer allowed to make any touch then i think it grow to be the final call. fortunate wreck for the Twins regardless of the undeniable fact that! BQ3: no longer a purple Sox fan, yet i'm going to easily say that it sort of looks like people have declared the purple Sox's season over 10 circumstances already this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days.

Pujols is the best now, and is on his way to best of all time. All of you people that think he is overrated, you are just mad that you don't have him. He is way better than A-Rod and all of your players. But before you judge him, try watching him play in the 162 season games and watch him in the playoffs. don't just watch him one game and say oh he sucks and is overrated. He could of had a bad game. we all have those games don't we? But the thing that makes him the best, is that since he already is the best, he keeps pushing himself harder and harder till he is way past that. To me, his playing, and his will power to be the best, makes him the best.

Once the MLB starts testing for HGH, watch how Pujols' numbers go way down.
