Theres what you call in the small engine world... underneath the flywheel... a stator.... its kinda like a alternator (some engines have dual stators... one for lights) well as you can guess... the faster the engine is running the more power output this stator puts out... and it charges the battery a little bit at a time... now if theres a drain (like a short, or light staying on) its gonna be harder for it to charge the battery... even much harder if the battery is dead and or bad... that can actually kill the stator..
